Rebecca Wallis
~ Carriance
~ A brilliant, dramatic ~ and powerful showcase ~ of new work
It’s a new year, and with it a whole new calendar of shows to enjoy. And our first show slot for 2020 is a real cracker!
Gracing the walls of the North Gallery, we have an incredible show of new work by Rebecca Wallis. Rebecca’s painting practice is inspired by the texts of philosophers Julia Kristeva and Bracha Ettinger. She doesn’t merely interpret Kristeva’s ideas of abjection, or Ettinger’s notions of ‘Carriance’ of the other (which forms the title of this show). Instead, Rebecca uses these texts as an intellectual framework – a doorway in, if you like – for exploration.
That said, the inspiration for this body of work lies far closer to home; as an artist, a partner, and especially a mother to twin daughters.
It’s a brilliant, dramatic and powerful showcase of new work.
