Budapest, Hungary, (b. 1953)

~ Peter Panyoczki is a highly regarded mixed media artist ~ working in a hybrid of forms and mediums ~ including paintings, sculpture, installation ~ photography and digital technology.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Panyoczki emigrated to Switzerland with his family in 1957. He studied and taught at the University of Zurich and Purdue University, Lafayette, as well as Rotterdam, Florence and Vienna, before making his home in New Zealand in 1995. Now resident in Kaiwaka, New Zealand, and Switzerland, Peter continues to work and show in both countries.

Panyoczki’s works explore complex themes of place and identity, as well as the origins and expression of life and nature.

Panyoczki has an extensive international exhibition history with representation in solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe, Asia, USA and New Zealand.

This is Monique’s third show with us, and it's her most powerful yet. Utilising apparently destructive gestures in order to create the work, the tensions between surface and form, image and object, playfully blur the line between sculpture and painting.
